
Jazmine Sullivan was born in and brought up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam the mother of Jazmine was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. Her father gave her the position of curator of the Historic Strawberry Mansion. She together with her family then relocated into the landmark. The year 2005 marks her Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduate, she is a major in vocal performance. Sullivan performed as the contralto singer for the choir for children and she later joined the adult chorus. Sullivan received little exposure to secular music. The singer recalls she was just 11 years old when a person wanted her to sing as a soloist at church. The singer wasn't fully ready. "Then the time came that McDonald's offered a competition to children in cities of the world, I got a chance to perform 'Accept What God Gives' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience were very supportive". She sang with Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday in the year thirteen. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age 15. When she was 15 She was signed by Jive Records. The label recorded her entire album in Jive Records but the album was never released. Sullivan was then dropped by the labels. Missy Elliott was the producer on a couple of tracks that were on their debut album. One of them was "Backstabbers" of Timbaland and Timbaland, which Elliott created and produced, was her favorite song.
